100 Coronas
In the follow-up to the monetary reform which took place in 1892, a new gold standard called “Corona” (in Latin “Corona”, in German “Krone”) was introduced in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. These Corona coins became the first Austrian gold coins. The gold ten-corona and twenty-corona coins replaced guldens from circulation and were minted until 1915. A few years later, a third coin was issued with a denomination of 100 corona as well. This one-hundred-corona coin was minted on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Franz Joseph I. The Annual or Jubilee one-hundred-corona coin from 1908 is one of the most popular collector coins on the Czech numismatic market, along with St. Wenceslas ducats. The original Habsburg mintages of the gold one-hundred-corona coins, which were minted until 1915, are very rare and highly appreciated on the part collectors. The mintage volumes of the original years oscillate in the magnitude of thousands of items. The obverse side of the coin depicts Emperor Franz Joseph I and the reverse side contains a double-headed eagle as a symbol of the Austrian Empire.
